Recraft supports several preset aspect ratios that can be applied when generating new images. Use the Aspect ratio slider located below the prompt field to choose the desired format. Aspect ratio affects how content is framed and composed, and is especially important when preparing assets for platforms with fixed dimensions, such as social media, thumbnails, or print layouts. When generating an image from scratch, Recraft will match your selected layer dimensions to the nearest supported aspect ratio. If the layer does not exactly match a supported ratio, the system will choose the closest available option. As a result, the output image may have slightly different dimensions than the initial layer.

To generate an image using a custom or unsupported aspect ratio:

Method 1 using the closest supported aspect ratio and outpainting:
  1. Choose the closest available aspect ratio and generate the image.
  2. Place the image inside a Frame.
  3. Use Outpainting to extend the image and reach the dimensions you need.
Method 2 creating a custom frame size and outpainting:
  1. Generate an image using the aspect ratio closest to your desired one.
  2. Create an empty Frame and adjust it to the exact dimensions you need.
  3. Drag and drop the generated image into the Frame.
  4. Click Recraft Frame to outpaint the empty space and fill the frame to your target size.
